JUSTICE AJMAL MIAN AS CHIEF JUSTICE OF HIGH COURT OF SIND Address By Mr. Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, Senior Puiane Judge, High Court of Sind [5-9-1988] On behalf of my brother Judges in this High Court and on my own behalf, I offer our heartiest felicitation to you on your assumption of Office of the Chief Justice of Sind High Court. You, rightfully and richly, deserve this high office on the basis of seniority and merit. You need no introduction and you are very well-known in the quarters cannected with law and litigant public as an outstanding, conscientious and upright Judge. You are also famous for quick disposal and punctuality. You were born in the year 1934 and graduated from University of Karachi in 1953 with the subjects of Economics and Political Science. In the year 1957 you were called to the Bar from Lincoln's Inn London. Your name is entered in the Roll of Barristers of the High Court of Justice, Queen's Bench Division, England. In the month of April, 1957 you were enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of West Pakistan, Karachi Bench. That is how you made the beginning of your career of practice in Karachi and you took office in the famous Lakshmi Building at Boulton Market, Karachi. By the way Lakshmi stands for good luck. During the days of your practice you acquired reputation of a very hardworking and conscientious counsel, who never sought adjournments and never made a request out of turn. In the days of your practice your ability and merit were noticed by the Judges and in the year 1972 you were nominated by the Chief Justice of the erstwhile High Court of Sind and Baluchistan as a member of the Rules-making Committee constituted under Section 123, C.P.C. You were counsel of Karachi Port Trust, Auqaf Department and Evacuee Trust Board. You were part time Lecturer in Sind Muslim Law College. On 20th March, 1978 you were appointed as Additional Judge of High Court of Sind. As a Judge you made your mark very soon in all fields of law in spite of the fact that initially your practice at Bar was on civil side. God has bestowed upon you qualities of a good and a just Judge, which are, namely, anxiety to do justice, hard work, marshalling of facts and quick grasp of complicated points Involved in the cases P L D and other Law Publications are replete with your decisions which show that you are a Judge of good standing. Your Judgments indicate that you are conversant with all branches of law; You ware away from us for a period of two years as Acting Chief Justice Baluchistan High Court an even there you took such keen interest in disposal of cases and improvement in the administrative and other. allied fields in the course of your duties as Chief Justice that glowing tributes were paid to you by Mr. Justice Mir Hagar Khan Khoso in his farewell address to you in full Court reference on 28th March, 1987. Now since you have assumed the office of the Chief Justice of Sind High Court, we avail this opportunity of assuring you that you will have fullest possible co-operation from us, Whenever and whereof that is needed. We are sure that with you at the helm of affairs, a new era will begin which will be era of speedy justice, fairplay and devotion to duty. In the end, I wish you all the best! ***
