Reply <!--[if gte mso 10]> Reply By Mr. Justice Ajmal Mian, Chief Justice, High Court of Sind I am deeply touched by the warm and kind welcome that has been extended to me on my assumption of the office of the Chief Justice of the Sind High Court. You have referred me in generous terms but I am conscious of my own limitations and the burdensome nature of the responsibilities that I have been called upon to discharge. I have been preceded by a stream of illustrious Judges, who head profound learning and their high traditions, would not be an easy task to maintain. However, I will endeavour to copy them, for which I shall need the blessings of Almighty Allah and your sincere co-operation to the fullest extent. The old proverbial saying that the Bench and the Bar are the two wheels of a Chariot still holds good and unless and until both wheels are strong and equal, the Chariot cannot function properly. I have been fortunate that my colleagues and the members of the Bar have always treated me with kindness and extended all the co-operation whenever I needed. The Karachi Bar has always been nice and kind to me, and that may be for the reason that I belonged to the said Bar. Even now I consider myself as a part of the above Bar though I have been assigned different duty as a Judge. In this regard, I may mention' that I have very happy memory about my stay for one year in Sukkur in 1983 when I was posted at the Sukkur Bench of this Court and two years in Baluchistan when I was transferred from this Court to the Baluchistan High Court in March 1985. The Sukkur Bar was so generous towards me. that I was compensated for missing my family life and so was also the case of the Baluchistan Bar: When I was transferred to the Baluchistan High Court some resentment was shown by the Baluchistan Bar Association by passing a resolution and I was told by my friends that I might be facing a hostile Bar but contrary to that the Baluchistan Bar accepted me as one of them, and during my tenure of two years I never felt that I was at a place tar which I did not belong. I am sure members of the Sind Bar Associations would continue' to extend same love, affection and co-operation which they have extended in the past. I am conscious of the fact that neither, the grandeur of a Court building nor the number of disposal of the cases alone enhances the prestige or respect of the Court but it is the quality and the speed at which justice is dispensed with, that are the material factors. I will endeavour to come up to your expectations. The function of a Judge is a very difficult one. He is bound to displease one of the parties by deciding the case against him. But I may say that I always keep in mind that justice is one of the attributes of Allah and, therefore, it has to be done in His name and bearing in mind that He is All Seeing and All Knowing from whom nothing is or can be hidden. My endeavour during my short judicial career has been to dispense justice evenly without making any distinction inter se between the lawyers and inter se between the parties. I am aware of some of the problems which are faced by the judiciary. My priorities will be as follows: (i) To reduce delay in disposal of the cases in the High Court and in the subordinate Courts. (ii) To take steps to check and to eliminate corruption and mal-practices. (iii) To improve the working of the subordinate Courts, for which I intend to inspect the same personally. (iv) To cause filling in vacancies of the Judges of the High Court and the subordinate Courts. (v) To ensure respectable Courts and residential accommodations for the Judges of the High Court and of the subordinate Courts. Before I conclude, I would like to thank my learned brother Judges and the learned members of the Bar. I hope and trust that I will enjoy their co-operation and support during the years that lie ahead in the discharge of my new duties. I pray that God may grant me .wisdom and courage to justify the trust that has been placed in me so as to uphold and .cherish the highest standards of justice and fairplay as enunciated by the Holy Quran and the Prophet (peace be upon him). "Amin". ***
