JUSTICE SAJJAD ALI SHAH, JUDGE, SUPREME COURT OF PAKISTAN Born on 17th February, 1933, at Karachi, schooled at Sindh Madressa tul‑Islam and passed Matriculation in 1951. Graduated in the year 1956 in subjects Political Science and General History from Sindh Muslim College in Karachi. Did law in London and was called to the Bar in 1959 from Lincoln's Inn. Enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court in 1960 and started practice at Karachi. In 1963 was appointed as District Public Prosecutor and Government Pleader, Lasbella, with headquarters at Karachi. In 1967 was appointed directly as District and Sessions Judge against a vacancy reserved for members of the Bar. Served as District and Sessions Judge in various districts in Punjab before disintegration of One Unit and in Sindh thereafter. In 1974 was appointed as Joint Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs. In 1977 is as appointed as Registrar of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Elevated to the Bench as a Judge of the High Court of Sindh in 1978. During the tenure as Judge of the High Court, held extra assignments as Custodian of the Evacuee Properties, Chairman, Special Court under Suppression of Terrorist Activities (Special Courts) Act, 1975, Special Appellate Court. (Customs) and Chairman, Provincial Election Authority, Sindh, Member Syndicate and Senate of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, and Member, Board of Trustees of Agha Khan University. Attended programme entitled "Introduction to Computer and Technology in Courts at National Judicial College, Reno, Nevada, U.S.A. Appointed Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Sindh from 15‑10‑1989 to 22‑10‑1989 and Chief Justice of High Court of Sindh from 13‑12‑1989 to 4‑11‑1990. MR JUSTICE SAEEDUZZAMAN SIDDIQUI, CHIEF JUSTICE, HIGH COURT OF SINDH Born at Calcutta (1‑12‑1937); received his school education at Lucknow/Dacca; passed Matriculation from the Board of Secondary Education, Dacca (1952); passed Intermediate Science (Engineering Group) from University of Dacca (1954); passed B.A. from University of Karachi (1958); passed LL.B. from University of Karachi (1960); joined the Bar (February 1961); enrolled as Advocate of High Court of West Pakistan (November 1963); enrolled as Advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan (November 1969); elected Joint Secretary, Karachi High Court Bar Association (1967); elected Member of Managing Committee of Karachi High Court Bar Association (1968‑69); elected Honorary Secretary of High Court Bar Library (1977) and continued as such until elevation; elevated to the Bench (5‑3‑1980). Appointed Member of Election Commission of Pakistan on 9‑8‑1980. Appointed as Chairman Rule Committee on 1‑2‑1986. Appointed Chairman Sindh Zakat Council on 13‑9‑1988. Appointed Member of Company Law Commission on 7‑6‑1989. Appointed as Member of 3‑men Contact Group, by Secretary‑General of the Organization of Islamic Conference to investigate the plight of Muslim minority in Bulgaria in May 1986 and presented the first report of the group to the 17th Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers held at Amman, Jordan, in March 1988, second report to the 18th Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers at Riyadh in March 1989, and the third report to the 19th Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers at Cairo in July 1990. Also presented a preliminary Report on the plight of Muslim minority in Bulgaria in the Extraordinary Session of Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers in New York in October, 1989. Attended the 17th, 18th, 19th and the Extraordinary Session of Islamic Conferences of Foreign Ministers in Amman, Riyadh, Cairo and New York on special invitation of Secretary‑General of Organization of Islamic Conference. Appointed Acting Governor of Sindh from 27‑7‑1990 to 30‑7‑1990. Appointed Acting Chief Justice of Sindh High Court from 19‑9‑1990 to 19‑10‑1990. Appointed as Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court on 5‑11‑1990. MR. JUSTICE DR. TANZIL‑UR‑RAHMAN, CHIEF JUSTICE, FEDERAL SHARIAT COURT Mr. Justice Dr. Tanzil‑ur -Rahman, born, June 16, 1928, Nagina, District Bijnor, U.P. India; received his early education at Madersa Aliyah Arabiyah Imadiyah, Moradabad; passed Oriental Examinations from the Department of Public Instructions, Allahabad and the University of Punjab; graduated from Agra University (1948) and migrated to Pakistan the same year; passed MA. (1952) First Class First, and LL.B. (1954) from Karachi University, in 1971, obtained Ph.D in Islamic fiqh from the same University; was awarded the title of Tamgha‑i‑Imtiyaz the same year (1971) by the Government of Pakistan for his contribution to Islamic Law; served as Lecturer; Urdu College, Karachi (1954‑55); got enrolled as Advocate in the then Chief Court of Sindh, in September, 1955 and in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1974, and practised on civil and constitutional side in the High Court and Supreme Court for about twenty five years (1955‑1980); was appointed Hony. Reader (Associate Professor), Central Institute of Islamic Research, Karachi, (1964) and after six months was appointed as Hony. Professor of Law in September, 1964 and after three years was appointed as Advisor to the Islamic Research Institute, Islamabad, which post he held for 11 years (1968‑1979). Was elevated to the Bench as Additional Judge, High Court of Sindh (March 5, 1980); and confirmed as Judge of the same High Court on 5‑3‑1985 which post he held for over ten years; was also appointed Chairman, Council of Islamic Ideology, Government of Pakistan (May 1980‑1984); was Member, Board of Trustees, International Islamic University Islamabad (1980‑1984); was appointed in January, 1990 by the Government of Pakistan one man Judicial Commission on Sangi Railway Station Accident. This was, perhaps, the first ever Report of about 500 pages completed and submitted within prescribed time of four weeks; was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Sindh from 25‑3‑1990 to 11‑4‑1990, in the absence of Chief Justice; retired on 15‑6‑1990 (A.N.) as Senior Puisne Judge High Court of Sindh on attaining the age of superannuation; was appointed Professor Shari'ah Law by the Islamic International University Malaysia (July, 1990) but resigned on 15‑11‑1990 on account of his being appointed by the President of Pakistan, as Chief Justice of the Federal Shariat Court, Pakistan; took oath on 17‑11‑1990. MR JUSTICE MUHAMMAD KHIYAR, JUDGE, PESHAWAR HIGH COURT Born in a religious family of village Salhad, District Abbottabad on 18th November, 1932; primary education in Primary School in village Salhad; passed Matriculation Examination in .1949 from Islamia High School Abbottabad (Punjab University); BA. from Peshawar University in 1953; LL.B. from Peshawar University in 1955. EXPERIENCE: Member Bar Association Abbottabad from 1956 to August, 1961; passsed P.C.S. (Judicial) Examination and joined Provincial Judicial Service; Civil Judge from 1‑9‑1961 to 1970; promoted as Senior Civil Judge and served as such from 1970 to 1972; promoted as Additional District & Sessions Judge in 1972 and as District & Sessions Judge in 1975; served as District and Sessions Judge, Bannu, Anti- Corruption Judge, N: W.F.P., District & Sessions Judge, Mardan, Malakand from 1976 to 1982; served as Deputy Secretary, Law Division, Islamabad for 4 months in the year 1982 and promoted to Grade‑20; then transferred to Ex‑cadre post; worked as Presiding Officer, Special Court (Banking) N.‑W.F.P. Peshawar from 1982 to 1984. Transferred to Ministry of Interior, Islamabad and posted as Joint Secretary (Law) on 23rd May, 1984; promoted to Grade‑21 and served as Member (Judicial) Income Tax Appellate Tribunal of Pakistan, Peshawar Bench from December, 1988 to October, 1990; elevated as Additional Judge of the Peshawar High Court on 5‑11‑1990. MR JUSTICE KAMAL MANSUR ALAM, JUDGE, HIGH COURT OF SINDH Born on 23rd April, 1937 at Jaunpur in U.P.; early schooling at Allahabad; migrated to Pakistan in 1949; passed Matric in 1951; BA. in 1955; MA. in Political Science in 1957; LL.B. in 1958; enrolled as Advocate for subordinate Courts in 1959; enrolled as Advocate of the High Court in 1961; enrolled as Advocate of the Supreme Court in 1979; elected General Secretary of the Karachi University Students Union 1956‑57; elected Secretary‑General of the Inter Gollegiate Body (I.C.B.) in 1956‑57; represented Pakistan at the First Asian Students Press Conference held at Philippines in 1957; represented Pakistan in the Seventh International Students Conference held at Nigeria in 1957. Elected Honorary Secretary of the Sindh High Court Bar Association Karachi in 1978‑79; Family‑‑‑ Comes from well known respectable family of U.P. In the family he is the third generation in legal profession; grandfather Khan Bahadur Maqbul Alam was a very prominent lawyer of U.P. practising at Banaras; remained leader of the Bar till death. Was chairman of the Banaras Municipality for almost 10 years; Father late Mr. Mansur Alain, practised at Allahabad; was Judge of Allahabad High Court. In Pakistan was Advocate‑General of the then East Pakistan, Custodian of Evacuee Properties, Claims Commissioner etc.; was the first President of the Sindh High Court Bar Association.
