MR MR. JUSTICE (R.) MIAN NISAR AHMED PASSES AWAY With extremely aggrieved and heavy heart we convey the sad news that Mr. Justice (R.) Mian Nisar Ahmed has passed away on 8th September, 2011. May Allah rest his soul in eternal peace, Aamin! An exemplary lawyer, Mian Sahib was courteous, firm, well prepared and conscious of his duty to all before him, an enviable calm temperament added dignity to anything he did, ideal in a lawyer. He saw himself as the holder of an office, and when he walked into the court he sought to leave Mian Nisar outside. He came up through the ranks of the profession with stars against his name, one of the best lawyers of his generation, and a quiet, unfussy, compelling advocate. No ostentations, no grandstanding, simply talent, well applied. Mian Nisar Ahmed was born August, 1, 1930, in Lahore. His father late Mian Ghulam Nabi Sahib was a businessman and distinguishable figure of the walled city of Lahore on account of his social and political stature. . After completing his matriculation from Central Model School, Lahore, Mian Nisar Ahmed went onto complete his law degree at the University of Punjab, Lahore. The chronicle of achievement was under way. After working as an associate with Justice (R.) Sheikh Bashir Ahmed in the year 1954, Mian Nisar through his hard labour, passion and "feel" for law acquired eminence in the field of civil law and went on his inexorable way up the ladder of success. He appeared and argued many cases before High Court. He never compromised his own quiet dignity, but was the shrewdest of opponents and the most demanding of leaders. His range of skill and experience made him a natural choice for many reputed organizations and companies to engage him as their legal advisor. He also served as a Member of the Film Censor Board for many years. Elevated to the Bench as Additional Judge of the Lahore High Court in the year 1980, he stepped down, after the issue of oath required by C.M.L.A. and continued practising law till his final breath. With a legal acumen second to none, he was renowned for being eminent, studious and passionate for law. His passion was not only confined to gaining knowledge but also dispensing it to younger lawyers. Mr. Najam-ul-Hassan Kazmi and Khawaja Haris (Advocate General, Punjab) are amongst the many that worked as associates with Mian Sahib. The legal profession mourns the loss of a man who gave much, asked little, and was loved and respected in equal proportion. He survived three sons, Mr. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan, Dr. Mian Sajid Nisar, Associate Professor at the Services Hospital, Lahore and Mian Saadat Nisar, Advocate, Lahore.
