MR MR. JUSTICE MUHAMMAD AZAM KHAN,CHIEF JUSTICE OF AZAD JAMMU AND KASHMIR Mr. Muhammad Azam Khan was born in village Kalyal Bainsi, District Mirpur on 25th February, 1952. Got primary education from the village school and passed Secondary School examination in 1967 from Government High School Potha Bainsi. Passed his F.A. examination in 1971 from Government Degree College, Mirpur, held under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore. Got degree of B.A. in 1974 from Punjab University; Lahore. Got degree of LL.B. from Punjab University, Lahore, in 1977 Started practice as pleader in lower Courts at Mirpur from 16th December, 1977. Enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court in January, 1981 and as an Advocate of Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in June, 1983 Actively participated in Bar politics. Firstly elected as Additional Secretary, Mirpur Bar Association in 1978; General Secretary, District Bar Association Mirpur in 1986-87; was elected unopposed President of District Bar Association, Mirpur, in 1996-97. In the year 1997, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Bar Council was constituted and was elected member of first AJ&K Bar Council. Remained member of the Enrolment Committee for Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir; Kashmir Committee and Rules Committee of AJ&K Bar Council Remained President, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court Bar Association from year 2006 to 2008 Elevated as ad hoc Judge of the Supreme, Court of AJ&K on . 23rd June, 2008 and permanent Judge of the Supreme Court of AJ&K on 30th June, 2010; was appointed Acting Chief Justice of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on 16-5-2011 and confirmed Chief Justice on 25-6-2011.
