Addict

n. [Latin] Roman law. The awarding by a magistrate of a person or thing to another, as the property of a debtor to a creditor.

addictive drug

A drug (such as heroin or nicotine) that, usu. after repeated consumption, causes physical dependence and results in well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal.
