Attenuation doctrine

Criminal procedure. The rule providing - as an exception to the fruit-of-the-poisonous-tree doctrine - that evidence obtained by illegal means may nonetheless be admissible if the connection between the evidence and the illegal means is sufficiently attenuated or remote.
