disclaimer of warranty

An oral or written statement intended to limit a seller's liability for defects in the goods sold. 0 In some circumstances, printed words must be specific and conspicuous to be effective.

patent disclaimer

A patent applicant's amendment of a specification to relinquish part of the claim to the invention. ( When part of the invention is not patentable, such a disclaimer can be filed to help ensure the validity of the rest of the patent. See SPECIFICATION (3).

qualified disclaimer

A person's refusal to accept an interest in property so that he or she can avoid having to pay estate or gift taxes. ( To be effective under federal tax law, the refusal must be in writing and must be executed no later than nine months from the time when the interest was created. IRC (26 USCA) ยง 2518.
