Engrossing

n. Hist. The practice of buying large quantities of commodities or merchandise 1vith the intent of gaining a monopoly and Aling them at a very high price. ( Engrossing gas a misdemeanor in England until 1834. also termed engrossment. See CORNERING THE MARKET. Engrossing . . . is the getting into one's possession, or buying up, of corn or other dead victuals, with intent to sell them again.
