Enrollment

n. The act of recording or registering.

Enrollment Office

Hist. A department of the Court of Chancery responsible for storing enrolled deeds and judgments. ( The Enrollment Office was abolished in 1879; its duties were transferred to the Central Office.

clerk of enrollments

Hist. The former chief of the Enrollment Office, which the British Parliament abolished in 1879, reassigning its duties to the Central Office. See ENROLLMENT OFFICE; CENTRAL OFFICE.

enrollment of vessels

Maritime law. The recording and certification of vessels used in coastal or inland navigation, as distinguished from the "registration" of vessels used in foreign commerce. ( Enrollment and registry are used to distinguish certificates granted to two classes of vessels. Enrollment evidences the national character of a vessel engaged in coasting trade or home traffic; registry is used to declare the nationality of a vessel engaged in foreign trade. Cf. REGISTRY (2).
