Licitation

1. The offering for sale or bidding for purchase at an auction; esp.in civil law, an auction held to partition property held in common. 2. CANT.

Pollicitation

Contracts. The offer of a promise. "By a promise we mean an accepted offer as opposed to an offer of a promise, or, as Austin called it, a pollicitation." William R. Anson, Principles of the Law of Contract 6 (Arthur L. Corbin ed., 3d Am. ed. 1919).

Solicitation

n. 1. The act or an instance of requesting or seeking to obtain something; a request or petition <a solicitation for volunteers to handle at least one pro bono case per year>. 2. The criminal offense of urging, advising, commanding, or otherwise inciting another to commit a crime <convicted of solicitation of murder>. 0 Solicitation is an inchoate offense distinct from the solicited crime. - Also termed criminal solicitation; incitement. Cf. ATTEMPT (2). 3. An offer to pay or accept money in exchange for sex <the prostitute was charged with solicitation>. 4. Securities. deliberate elicitation

Criminal procedure. The purposeful yet covert drawing forth of an incriminating response (usu. not during a formal interrogation) from a suspect whose Sixth Amendment right to counsel has attached but who has not waived that right. 0 Deliberate elicitation may occur, for example, when a police officer engages an arrested suspect in conversation on the way to the police station. proxy solicitation

A request that a corporate shareholder authorize another person to cast the shareholder's vote at a corporate meeting.
