Minimum

adj. Of, relating to, or constituting the smallest acceptable or possible quantity in a given case <minimum charge to a customer of a public utility>.

Minimum est nihilo proximum

The least next to nothing.

Optima est lex quae minimum relinquit arbitrio judicis; optimus judex qui minimum sibi

It is the best law that leaves the least to the discretion of the judge; the best judge is he who leaves least to himself.

A flat tax potentially imposed on corporations and higherincome individuals to ensure that those taxpayers do not avoid all income-tax liability by using exclusions, deductions, and credits. -Abbr. AMT. - Also termed minimum tax.

A nonresident defendant's forum-state connections, such as business activity or actions foreseeably leading to business activity, that are substantial enough to bring the defendant within the forum-state court's personal jurisdiction without offending traditional notions of fair play and substantial Justice. International Shoe Co. u. Washington, 326 U.S. 310, 66 S.Ct. 154 (1945). - Also termed minimal contacts.

Hist. A list of the lowest fees that a lawyer may charge, set by a state bar association. ( The courts held that minimum-fee schedules, now defunct, violated antitrust laws.

minimum-royalty clause

Patents. A royaltyagreement provision that prescribes a fixed payment by the licensee to the patent owner, regardless of whether the invention is used or not.
