people's court
1 A court in which ordinary people can resolve small disputes. See smallclaims court under COURT. 2. In totalitarian countries, a group of nonlawyer citizens, often illiterate commoners, convened at the scene of a crime to pass judgment or impose punishment on the accused criminal. 3. (cap.) In Nazi Germany, a tribunal that dealt with political offenses.
sovereign people
The political body consisting of the collective number of citizens and qualified electors who possess the powers of sovereignty and exercise them through their chosen representatives.
