Easter sittings

English law. A term of court beginning on April 15 of each year and usu. ending on May 8, but sometimes extended to May 13. 0 This was known until 1875 as Easter term. Cf. HILARY SITTINGS; MICHAELMAS SITTING.

Hilary sittings.

In England, a term of court beginning on January 11 of each year and ending on the Wednesday before Easter. ( The Hilary sittings were known as Hilary term until 1875. Cf. EASTER SITTINGS; MICHAELMAS SITTING.

Michaelmas sitting

Hist. A term of English common-law courts, running from November 2 to November 25.

Sitting

n. A court session; esp., a session of an appellate court.

en banc sitting

A court session in which all the judges (or a quorum) participate. See EN BANC.

en bane sitting

in camera sitting

A court session conducted by a judge in chambers or elsewhere outside the courtroom. See IN CAMERA.

A court session held after the normal term.
