Hospitallers

A military and religious order founded by the Catholic Church in the 12th century and so called because it built a hospital at Jerusalem to care for pilgrims. ( The Crown seized all its lands and goods in England under the Grantees of Reversions Act (1540). The Hospitallers still functions in several countries as a humanitarian society.
