Indian Territory.

A former U.S. territory -now a part of the state of Oklahoma - to which the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, and Seminole tribes were forcibly removed between 1830 and 1843. ( In the late 19th century, most of this territory was ceded to the United States, and in 1907 the greater part of it became the State of Oklahoma.

Northwest Territory

Hist. The first possession of the United States, being the geographical region south of the Great Lakes, north of the Ohio River, and east of the Mississippi River, as designated by the Continental Congress in the late 1700s. ( This area includes the present states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and the eastern part of Minnesota.

Territory

non-self-governing territory

Int'l law. A territory that is governed by another country. ( These types of territories are rarely allowed representation in the governing country's legislature.

A territory governed under the United Nations' international trusteeship system; a territory administered by the United Nations or a member state for the political, economic, educational, and social advancement of its inhabitants. 2.
