Volstead Act
A federal statute enacted in 1919 to prohibit the manufacture, sale, or transportation of liquor. ( Sponsored by Andrew Joseph Volstead of Minnesota, a famous Prohibitionist, the statute was passed under the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. When the 21st Amendment repealed the 18th Amendment in 1933, the Volstead Act was voided.
