Third World

The group of underdeveloped nations (esp. in Africa and Asia) not aligned with major powers, whether Western democracies (i.e., the First - or Free - World) or countries that were formerly part of the Soviet bloc (i.e., the Second World).

World Bank

A U.N. bank established in 1945 to provide loans that aid in economic development, through economically sustainable enterprises. ( Its capital derives from U.N. member states' subscriptions and by loans on the open market. - Also termed International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
