ancillary administration

An administration that is auxiliary to the administration at the place of the decedent's domicile, such as one in a foreign state, the purpose being to collect assets and pay debts in that locality. - Also termed foreign administration."The object of ancillary administration is to collect assets of nonresident decedents found within the state and remit the proceeds to the domiciliary executor or administrator, and historically it has been the only feasible way of doing this, although statutes in some jurisdictions permit simpler solutions today, such as permitting the domiciliary representative to act as local representative if he complies with certain requirements . . . .
