Disappropriation
1. Eccles. law. The alienation of church property from its original use; the severance of property from church ownership or possession. 2. The release of property from individual ownership or possession.

A bill that authorizes governmental expenditures. 0 The federal government cannot spend money unless Congress has appropriated the funds. U.S. Const. art. I, ยง 9, cl. 7. See APPROPRIATION (2), (3).
misappropriation theory
Securities. The doctrine that a person who wrongfully uses confidential information to buy or sell securities in violation of a duty owed to the one who is the information source is guilty of securities fraud.
prior-appropriation doctrine
The rule that, among the persons whose properties border on a waterway, the earliest users of the water have the right to take all they can use before anyone else has a right to it. Cf. RIPARIANRIGHTS DOCTRINE.
