cognizor
Hist. The grantor of land in a conveyance by fine. - Also termed conusor; conuzor. See FINE (1)"Next comes the concord, or agreement itself, after leave obtained from the court; which is usually an acknowledgment . . . that the lands in question are the right of the complainant. recognizor
A person who is obligated under a recognizance; one who is bound by a recognizance."A recognizance is an acknowledgment upon record of a former debt, and he who so acknowledges such debt to be due is termed the recognizor, and he to whom or for whose benefit he makes such acknowledgment is termed the recognizes."
