criminal contempt

An act that obstructs justice or attacks the integrity of the court. ( A criminal-contempt proceeding is punitive in nature. - Also termed common-law contempt."Criminal contempt is a crime in the ordinary sense; it is a violation of the law, a public wrong which is punishable by fine or imprisonment or both."
