n. [Spanish] 1. Mexican law. A businessperson; a person who invests in or manages a business. 2. Hist. A person receiving extensive land grants in consideration of bringing people into Mexico (esp. into what would become Texas) and settling them on the land with a view toward increasing the population and developing the country's resources.
