[Latin] Hist. Eccles. law. A writ that, being founded on a bishop's certificate of excommunication, required the sheriff to arrest and imprison the defendant. ( The writ issued out of chancery and was returnable to the King's Bench. Cf. DE CONTUMACE CAPIENDO.
