abuse excuse

Criminal law. The defense that a defendant is unable to tell right from wrong, having been physically or mentally abused as a child. 9 Like the traditional criminal-law excuse of insanity, the abuse excuse is asserted by a defendant in an effort to avoid all culpability for the crime charged.
