exeat
n. 1. Generally, permission to go outside (a place). 2. Permission that a bishop grants to a priest to go out of his diocese. Cf. NE EXEAT REPUBLICA.
ne exeat republica
n. [Latin "let him not go out of the republic"] 1. A writ restraining a person from leaving the republic. 2. A chancery writ ordering the person to whom it is addressed not to leave the jurisdiction of the court or the state. ( Ne exeat writs - no longer widely used - are usu. issued to ensure the satisfaction of a claim against the defendant. - Often shortened to ne exeat. - Also termed writ of ne exeat; ne exeat regno.
