gazumping

Slang. The improper sale of a house, usu. by raising the price after accepting an offer. ( Gazumping can take different forms, the usu. one being when a seller raises the price after accepting the buyer's offer. But it may also occur when a competing buyer makes a higher bid than the one already accepted, thus encouraging the seller to back out of the earlier contract.
