n. Hist. An ecclesiastical court said to have been anciently held on the Sunday before St. Thomas's Day. ( Although this definition is standard, the Oxford English Dictionary calls it erroneous. In fact, the term appears to be a variant spelling of hallmoot. - Also spelled (prob. through false etymology) holymote.
