Mutiny Act
Hist. An English statute enacted annually from 1689 to 1879 to provide for a standing army and to punish mutiny, desertion, and other military offenses. ( It was merged into the Army Discipline and Regulation Act of 1879 (ch. 33).

An insubordination or insurrection of armed forces, esp. sailors, against the authority of their commanders; a forcible revolt by members of the military against constituted authority, usu. their commanding officers. - mutinous, adj "Both mutiny and failure to prevent, suppress, or report a mutiny are capital offenses . . . . The elements of mutiny are (1) creation of any violence or disturbance or acting in concert with others to refuse to obey orders (2) with the intent to usurp or override lawful military authority. One fails to prevent, suppress, or report mutiny when he does not take all reasonable means to overcome or report mutiny.
