Hist. A method used, esp. in London, to obtain special jurors from which to select a jury panel. ( Under this method, a number representing each person on a sheriffs list is drawn from a box until 48 unchallenged people have been nominated. Each party then strikes 12 people and the remaining 24 constitute the panel.
