. Hist. An amount of land equal to what an ox plows in one year, usu. 12 to 15 acres. ( An oxgang, equaling one-eighth of a carucate, was used to assess land for tax purposes. - Also termed oxgate; bouata terrae. Cf. CARUCATE.
