personal jurisdiction

A court's power to bring a person into its adjudicative process; jurisdiction over a defendant's personal rights, rather than merely over property interests. - Also termed in personam jurisdiction; jurisdiction in personam; jurisdiction of the person; jurisdiction over the person.
