A fact that has not been made public. ( Whether a fact is private often arises in invasion-of-privacy claims. Cf. public fact.
public disclosure of private facts
The public revelation of some aspect of a person's private life without a legitimate public purpose. ( The disclosure is actionable in tort if the disclosure would be highly objectionable to a reasonable person. See INVASION OF PRIVACY.
