protective trust
A trust that is designed to protect the trust property to ensure the continued support of the beneficiary. "In a broad sense, a spendthrift, support, or other similarly protective trust is one created to provide a fund for the maintenance of the beneficiary and at the same time to secure it against the beneficiary's improvidence or incapacity." 76 Am. Jur. 2d Trusts $ 121 (1992).
