The act or an instance of coercing or inducing someone to do something by fraudulent or other wrongful means; speci£, the practice of drugging, tricking, intoxicating, or otherwise illegally inducing a person to work aboard a vessel, usu. to secure advance money or a premium. - Also termed shanghaiing sailors. 18 USCA § 2194.
