silver-platter doctrine
Criminal procedure. The principle that a federal court could allow the admission of evidence obtained illegally by a state police officer as long as a federal officer did not participate in or request the search. ( The Supreme Court rejected this doctrine in Elkins u. United States, 364 U.S. 206, 80 S.Ct. 1437 (1960).
