THE ABASYN UNIVERSITY ACT, 2009 THE ABASYN UNIVERSITY ACT, 2009. (1[KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA] ACT NO. XIII OF 2009) [First published after having received the assent of the Governor of the 1[Khyber Pakhtunkhwa] in the Gazette of 1[Khyber Pakhtunkhwa] (Extraordinary) ,dated the 24th October, 2009] 1.Substituted vide Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Act No. IV of 2011 AN ACT to provide for the establishment of a University at Peshawar in the name of Abasyn University. Preamble.---WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the establishment of a University at Peshawar in the name of Abasyn University, in the private sector, and for matters ancillary thereto; It is hereby enacted as follows: CHAPTER -IV AUTHORITIES OF THE UNIVERSITY 20. Syndicate.---(1) There shall be a Syndicate of the University consisting of the following: the Vice-Chancellor, who shall be its Chairperson; the Deans of the Faculties of the University; three professors from different departments, who are not members of the Senate, to be elected by the University Teachers in accordance with procedure to be prescribed by the Senate; principals of the constituent colleges; the Registrar; the Treasurer; and the Controller of Examinations; (g) (2) Members of the Syndicate, other than ex officio members, shall hold office for three years. (3) As regards the three professors described in clause (c) of sub-section (1) the Senate may, as an alternative to elections, prescribe a procedure for proposal of a panel of names by the Representation Committee set up in terms of section 24. Appointment of persons proposed by the Representation Committee may be made by the Senate on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor. (4) The quorum for a meeting of the Syndicate shall be one-half of the total number of members, a fraction being counted as one. (5) The Syndicate shall meet at least once in each quarter of the year.
