BALUCHISTAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT ORDINANCE, 1980 BALUCHISTAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT ORDINANCE, 1980 CHAPTER XI‑GENERAL FUNCTIONS 55. Islamisation of society.‑All Councils within their territorial jurisdic tion will endeavour to reform the society in conformity with the injunctions of Qur'an, and `Sunnah'. For the purpose of achieving this object the Local Council may‑ (a) hold seminars and public meeting; (b) discourage un‑Islamic practices such as exhorbitant expenses on marriages, dowery, bridal considerations and other un‑Islamic customs and practices; (c) encourage austerity and simple way of life ; and (d) pursuade the people to follow the religious injunctions. (2) Local Councils to advise.‑All Local Councils shall assist the advisory committees if any constituted by the Government or district administration for maintenance of Law and Order and Price level of the consumer goods, and also verify the antecedents of applicants for local/domicile certificates, ration depots, driving licences, arms licences, allotment of plots and shops, power connection of tubewells, allotment of bulldozers and other items of public utility, and to make suitable recommendations on their applica tions.
