A group of men assaulted my brother, but the local Station House Officer (SHO) is refusing to lodge our FIR because the attackers are politically connected. What is the legal remedy to register our complaint?

File a petition under Section 22-A & 22-B of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) before the Sessions Judge (who acts as the Justice of Peace). The court has the power to issue directions to the police to register the FIR if a cognizable offense has been committed. Alternatively, you can file a Private Complaint (Istighasa) directly in the Magistrate's court.
