My family has lived on a piece of land for over 40 years. The original owner is now claiming it back. Can we claim ownership under adverse possession or limitation laws in Pakistan?

Historically, Article 144 of the Limitation Act 1908 allowed adverse possession claims after 12 years of open, hostile, and continuous possession. However, the Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (in the landmark case of Maqbool Ahmad v. Hakoomat-e-Pakistan) declared adverse possession as un-Islamic. Therefore, you cannot claim title based solely on adverse possession now.
