We are an adult couple who want to marry of our own free will, but our families are opposed. Is court marriage legally valid? Can our families register a kidnapping FIR against the groom?

Court marriage is legally 100% valid under the Child Marriage Restraint Act and Muslim Personal Law, provided the girl is of legal age (16/18 depending on province) and marries of her free consent. To protect the groom from a false kidnapping FIR (Section 365-B PPC), the bride must record a statement under Section 164 CrPC before a Magistrate declaring she married willingly.
